Dress Code & Uniforms

UNIFORM DRESS AND HAIR STANDARDS for 2018-2019

 General Guidelines for All Students (K3-12th)

 All students are to dress in a modest manner which is appropriate for school.

  1. Students in K3 and K4 must be covered from their shoulders to their knees. No sleeveless.
  2. Students in K5 – 12th must wear the official Northside school uniform.
  3. Slacks/pants must be “dress slacks” and may be either khaki or navy blue in color. They must have inset pockets (not patch) and plain seams (not rolled and top stitched). They may not be “skinny” in cut or be denim or spandex.
  4. All students are to wear appropriate shoes. Flip-flops and athletic sandals are not acceptable. All elementary students (K3 – 6th) are to wear socks and shoes which cover their toes and heels. Tennis shoes are acceptable for K2 – 12th
  5. Hair (boys’ and girls’) may not be dyed a non-natural color. Boys’ hair must be cut in a masculine style that is out of the eyes and evenly tapered off the ears and collar. It may not have patterns or designs cut/carved into it. Dreadlocks and Mohawks are not acceptable. Girls’ hair must be cut in an appropriate female style and should not resemble boys’ hairstyles.
  6. Solid-colored (no camouflage), non-logoed outerwear without a hood may be worn at any time. Name-brand logos (i.e. Polo horse) must be smaller than 2 inches. Any item with a hood may not be worn in class. Outerwear bearing the name of a local high school other than Northside Christian School is not to be worn on campus.
  7. Unless noted otherwise, school dress is required for all extracurricular activities: ball games, concerts, etc.
  8. Body-piercing and tattoos are not permitted.

 

Elementary Students (K5-6th)

 All Students

  1. Uniform shirts for both boys and girls are either white or navy blue with an official school logo.
  2. White or navy cardigan sweaters may be worn to school and in the classroom.

Boys

  1. Boys may wear jeans (must be blue in color) or khaki pants in a traditional cut or boot-cut style (not “skinny” cut). Sweat pants, cargo pants, pants with elastic in the ankle, or shorts are not acceptable.
  2. Shirts are to be tucked in at all times.

Concert or program dress: (please purchase these items at the beginning of the school year)

1st-6th: Black pants, a long-sleeved white dress shirt, and a tie; dress shoes, dark socks.

Girls

  1. Girls may wear either a navy or khaki colored skirt or navy or khaki uniform slacks to school. Slacks must have inset pockets (not patch), plain seams (not rolled and top stitched), and may not be “skinny” in cut or be made of denim or spandex. Leggings may not be worn in place of slacks.
  2. Navy or khaki skirts/jumpers may be worn to school. Skirts or dresses worn to school and for school programs must COVER the knee.
  3. Girls may wear their uniform shirts untucked. The tail of any undershirt must be tucked in.
  4. Girls may have the lobe of the ear pierced. Good taste and common sense should be used for all other jewelry selections. Make up may not be worn.

Concert or program dress: (please purchase these items at the beginning of the school year)

1st-6th: Black skirt and a white blouse; dress shoes, white socks

  

Secondary Students (7th–12th)

 All Students

  1. Uniform shirts for both young men and young ladies are white or navy blue with an embroidered school logo.
  2. Solid-colored cardigan sweaters may be worn to school and in the classroom.

Young Men

  1. Khaki (tan) or navy blue pants in a traditional or “boot cut” style are to be worn. “Slacks must have inset pockets (not patch), plain seams (not rolled and top stitched), and may not be “skinny” in cut. Sweat pants, cargo pants, pants with elastic in the ankle, or shorts are not allowed. Pants are to be worn with a belt and around the waist (not sagged). The uniform shirt is to be worn tucked in at all times, including arriving at and leaving from school.
  2. Socks are required to be worn and must be visible above the shoe.
  3. Young men are to be clean-shaven at all times.
  4. Necklaces, including religious symbols, are not to be worn. Medical ID tags are permissible.

For ballgames only: young men may wear solid color, non-torn or frayed (no holes) blue jeans with the school uniform shirt (tucked in).

Young Ladies

  1. Khaki (tan) or navy skirts that cover the knee navy or khaki or navy uniform slacks to school. Slacks must have inset pockets (not patch), plain seams (not rolled and top stitched), and may not be “skinny” in cut or be denim or spandex. The uniform shirt may be worn out, but any undershirt must be tucked in.
  2. Sandals must have a heel strap to be worn.
  3. Young ladies may have the lobe of their ear pierced. Good taste and moderation should be used in makeup and jewelry selection and usage.
